Extreme Closet Minimalism: The 3-Pairs-of-Jeans Wardrobe

I'm anything but a minimalist when it comes to my wardrobe, so I'm always fascinated by those magical people who can look great with so little. Such was the case when I came across a denim expert who only owns three pairs of jeans. Want to know what they are (it's not what you think)?

"This Year's Jeans," "Last Year's Jeans" and "The Year Before Last Year's Jeans."

That's right, she buys just one pair per year, rotates the previous two pairs down the ladder of importance and kicks the bottom one to the curb (or, actually, to eBay).

The newest (nicest) pair is for the office, parties and events, the older pair is for weekends, errands and hanging out and the oldest, ratty pair is for grubby work around the house or gardening.

This system is quite a minimalist feat considering the average American woman owns seven pairs of jeans (that's my own towering stack below).

My own jean collection rings in at an extremely non-minimalist 16 pairs.

But like most people, I do tend to wear the same pairs over and over, so it begs the question: could we all get by with just three pairs?

Well, could you do it?
